Conclusion

Painting of Quantrill's Raid "Blood Stained Dawn", 1991, Watkins Museum of History.
The actions the federal government took during the late nineteenth century fueled the border conflict that led to the greatest attack on civilians during the Civil War, Quantrill's Raid. The terrible tragedy of Quantrill's Raid left a massive scar on the community of Lawrence, but it also allowed Lawrence to regrow stronger, turning the tragedy into a triumph for the town. Today, more than a hundred years later, the legacy lives on through American culture and the rivalry between the states of Kansas and Missouri.
